About us
Los Chamos was created as an idea to bring the authentic Venezuelan atmosphere and tradition to many people around the Boston area. Our family is known for its cooking tradition throughout the years. Many have asked us to open a restaurant where Mama Doris could share her extraordinary flavor. During one of our many family gatherings, the idea of building a business from the ground up intensified. Weeks later Los Chamos was born no longer an idea. As a family, we discovered each one of us brought a special talent to the table. With everyone’s effort a business plan was quickly developed and the store opens its doors a few months later.
What is Chamo?
It means a kid, Venezuelans are well known among Spanish speakers for their love and constant use of this word. It is used repeatedly in the same fashion as the American slang word, “dude”.
We believe that the strong bond we share as a family translates into the quality of food and service that we provide to our customers. Los Chamos was founded by the Cuevas and Rendon families. Manuel Rendon and Freddy Cuevas, both from Venezuela, met in Boston in 2002 at a Rendon family gathering and quickly formed a friendship. Although they pursued different paths in college, their bond grew stronger when Freddy married Manuel’s sister in 2009, bringing their families closer together. In 2014, they began a project selling Venezuelan ham bread, which received an overwhelming response from customers during the holiday season. This led them to realize the potential for sharing authentic Venezuelan cuisine with the Boston community, and Los Chamos was born.
Manolo (El Panadero) the talented baker who crafted the delicious bread filled with ham, raisins, and olives during the holiday season. Even after the holidays had passed, the idea of starting a restaurant remained on the back burner until late 2015 when it was reignited. At that time, there was still only one member, Manolo, but the team began pulling together knowledge from professional chefs and their own expertise to launch the business.
Freddy (El de las Finanzas) a financial specialist was appointed to oversee all financial matters related to the business. With his expertise in finance and accounting, he was responsible for creating budgets, managing funds, and providing accurate estimates for startup costs. Freddy’s attention to detail and financial acumen ensured that the business started off on the right foot and stayed financially healthy. His contributions were crucial in the early stages of the business and continue to be instrumental in its success.
Manuel (El Ingeniero de la casa) an experienced engineer, was appointed to oversee the structuring of the business and operations. With his extensive knowledge and expertise, he was able to create a solid foundation for the business to thrive. His attention to detail and analytical skills were invaluable in ensuring the success of the venture.
As our dream progressed, a few other individuals were eager to join our team, and they quickly became key players in launching the business. Despite having the vision of providing customers with authentic food, the challenge of starting a successful new business lay ahead. In order to progress, a marketing and event planning department needed to be established, and as such, the following appointments were made:
Ohdra (Marketing Specialist) is responsible for managing all aspects of catering events, including planning, preparation, and execution. She is in charge of communicating with clients to determine their needs and preferences, creating custom menus, coordinating with the kitchen and service staff, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly during the event.
Gabby (Event Coordinator) is responsible for managing all aspects of catering events, including planning, preparation, and execution. She is in charge of communicating with clients to determine their needs and preferences, creating custom menus, coordinating with the kitchen and service staff, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly during the event.
Doris Sanchez (Los Chamos’ mom) is one of the hardest-working individuals and is responsible for creating the majority of the delicious food that you will taste and enjoy at Los Chamos. Please see below for additional background information.

During his school years, he also worked full-time as a manager in a restaurant that helped him pay for his family’s and school expenses. Even though he was achieving success he knew something was missing. So he convinced his family to join him, therefore they migrated to Boston.
